Photos - Letter Announcing Election of St. Philaret as Metropolitan

St. John of San Francisco (Maximovitch) in a letter to Metropolitan Petros of Astoria informing him of the good news that St. Philaret of New York has been elected Chief Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. He also informed Bishop Petros of the date of Metropolitan Philaret's enthronement on May 16, 1964 (Sunday of the Samaritan Woman). All the dates are using the Patristic Calendar only, as was the habit of St. John.

Bartholomew Prays at Iftar

Iftar, refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together. Iftar is done right after sunset.
