Clothing Drive at the Cathedral

Dear friends,

The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Markella Homeless program, in conjunction with 'Fashion Republic',is gathering second-hand clothing for the poverty stricken people of Peru. Our Presbytera Monica Giannakopoulos, who is Peruvian born and raised, and who is always sensitive to the needs of her homeland, has asked us to help as much as we can. We are asking for SECOND-HAND clothing ONLY. Fashion Republic will pay for used clothing by the pound. The money is then sent to Peru and distributed to poverty relief organizations on the ground there. Please do NOT donate any new clothing. Clothing for adults, and children, including shoes, is welcome.

Please bring your clothing to the Cathedral of St. Markella BEFORE June 4th. For further information please call: 718-913-4242.

Saint Matthew the Evangelist, Jonesboro, Arkansas

Jonesboro is a town located near the Eastern border of Arkansas, with a population of approximately 60,000. From a human standpoint, it’s not the most likely candidate for a traditional Orthodox mission, but for an Orthodox Christian who orders his priorities around Christ and His Church, it makes perfect sense. Ask A Priest

Forty Day Memorial Service

Q. Can you please explain the significance of the forty day memorial service? An Evangelical family asked one of our relatives that question. We said that it’s best to ask a clergy member. Thank you in advance for your response. (We will forward it to them as soon as possible).
